THE BIO I WISH I HAD:
When it comes to life, Aaron Loy is a man among boys.
He never argues with wife, never loses patience with his kids, always says and does the right thing, and never ever pictures himself beating the steaming arrogance out of religious people who hurt those he cares about.
He knows that failure exists in theory, though he has never experienced it for himself. He is aware that sometimes leaders are afraid, but Aaron knows only unshakable courage. He certainly never questions himself or his ability to live up to the mission God has called him to. Most days he lives and leads with such influence, that he needs only to speak and new churches are planted and lives forever changed.
MY REAL BIO:
Yea, not even close. The truth is Aaron Loy is a very ordinary guy who struggles often and has failed regularly throughout his relatively short life.
He’s done a lot of dumb things in that span of time – like repeatedly jumping from his bike onto moving trains as a child, chasing an intruder through his house naked, forgetting he is not Shaun White and hitting his head so hard in Aspen that he didn’t know he was married, and “many” other things of a more serious nature his wife warns she could easily recall.
He has to work very hard to do what he does. Anything that appears natural or easy is only an illusion. When Aaron manages to succeed, it almost always comes through a combination of invested blood, sweat and tears. And despite his best efforts, there are still many days that he only manages to achieve mediocrity.
Only by God’s grace does he find himself somehow blessed with an incredible wife (who he married before they could both legally buy alcohol), two daughters that are both healthy and beautiful, and leading a church full incredible people that he had the privilege of founding in a city he loves.
The bottom line? he is just an ordinary guy serving an extraordinary God, dreaming of an extraordinary Church. It turns out that our God is rather fond of using ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things, so he is doing his best to push himself and help others to keep upping the bar in what they are willing to attempt for God on behalf of others.
This is the place where he processes and shares what he is learning in hopes of helping others who are on a similarly crazy journey of faith and adventure. Welcome!
